NBA Summer League: Anthony Randolph Ties Scoring Record

Golden State Warriors power forward Anthony Randolph tied the NBA Summer League scoring record yesterday with an impressive 42 points on 13-22 shooting. Throughout the course of the game, Randolph continued to dominate Bulls’ 26th overall pick Taj Gibson, causing him to commit nine personal fouls which sent Randolph to the line 21 times. Randolph also added three rebounds, four steals and three blocks.

Randolph’s amazing performance did a good job covering up for the poor showing for Stephen Curry. As a shooter, Curry felt the effects of an off night, going just 3-for-15, for 10 points. Stephen did a good job distributing the ball, though, racking up nine assists.

For the Bulls, 16th overall pick James Johnson had a team high 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting. Taj Gibson was pretty good offensively, scoring 14 points and grabbing seven offensive rebounds (12 total).

Other observations:

  • Hasheem Thabeet has yet to give any reason to believe he deserved to be the second overall pick. Another dissappointing six points and six rebounds with only one block against the Knicks. Second year forward Darrell Arthur had a game high 22 points but was also called for seven fouls.
  • James Harden is going to be a stud in this league. Kid is not just a scorer, he can defend and rebound too. Harden scored 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting and made two of his three triples. Harden added five rebounds, five assists, and two steals. BJ Mullens had his best game of the Summer League with 10 points, five blocks and five rebounds. Then again, Adam Morrison scored 17 in the same game.
  • Ty Lawson was just awful against the Spurs, missing all of his seven shots while turning the ball over four times. Sonny Weems missed 14 of his 16 shots. In an attempt to play for his dad, Coby Karl scored a game high 19 points.
  • I can not wait to see the Hornets backcourt this season. Chris Paul combined with Marcus Thorton and Darren Collison is going to be one heck of a show. Collison had 23 points on 7-of-13 shooting while Thorton had 19 points on 8-for-17 shooting, sinking three of his six three’s. If Julian Wright can come around, that’s three key players for the Hornets next season on thier summer league team.
